Divorce & Dissolution of Marriage

Mediation is arguably the most efficient and cost-effective way to solve outstanding issues related to divorce and dissolution of a marriage.

Mediation is a collaborative process where a neutral and impartial person, called the mediator, helps conflicting parties respectfully communicate and jointly resolve disputes.

Unlike litigation or binding arbitration, in mediation the parties maintain control of decision-making.  Indeed, even though a court may require parties to mediate their dispute prior to litigation, mediation is a voluntary process that does not require the parties to reach a decision.

Even when not required by the court, it can be beneficial to try to settle differences through mediation before submitting your issues to a judge or other arbitrator.

Benefits of Divorce Mediation Can Include:

•   The parties retain significantly more control over decision-making

•   The parties have more control over the scope of issues to address

•   The parties have greater opportunity to craft creative and customized solutions

•   Less costly - financially, emotionally and time-wise

•   Confidential

•   Opportunity to improve communication, both short and long term

•   Opportunity to improve working relationships

•   There is evidence that the improved communication and relationships that typically result from mediation are critical for quality co-parenting

•  There is evidence that reducing the duration and intensity of conflict in a divorce process is beneficial to the children

•   Research shows parties are typically more satisfied with mediation outcomes than with the results of other forms of dispute resolution

Chris will help you efficiently work through an organized process of sharing your issues, interests, and needs.  He will help you try to find workable solutions to custody, child care, property, and other financial issues that must be resolved in a marriage dissolution.  Chris will capture any agreements in writing for you and your attorneys to review and approve.

Fees and Expenses:

Fees are charged on a straight-time basis (at $135 per hour) for all time spent during the actual mediation sessions and outside of the sessions.
